Our city's continued growth means we should consider how we spend taxpayers' money and how many citizens we can benefit from the proposed plans. The Parks and Recreation Department has terrific plans for parks and kayak launches they'd like to implement. Continuing to provide outdoor recreation is important, but we must ensure we are making it accessible. It's pertinent to avoid wasted money if we don't consider our community's differing abilities and needs. Suppose we don't prioritize accessibility through kayak launches for adaptive paddlers and playground surfaces such as poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing or a combination of ADA-compliant surfaces. Correcting such mistakes will lead to unnecessary spending. I support our Parks and Recreation Department and will continue to do so while also being mindful of the amenities and ideas proposed that they include persons with disabilities.
As I’ve attended city council meetings, the city council and constituents have recognized a lack of follow-up concerning specific matters. The city council resolved the lack of library book reconsideration follow-up, but that isn’t the only example. As citizens take time out of their evening to speak during public comments and raise concerns, the city council members and the city manager must keep the public informed of actions taken and the progress made on those actions. A citizen shouldn’t feel like their time or concerns went unheard. It’s crucial communication occurs so that resolutions can come about promptly.
League City's allure lies in its dedication to low crime, sustainable growth, and a vibrant community centered around family-oriented events. Despite our growing population, we've maintained that cherished small-town ambiance. However, with expansion comes the imperative to extend our welcoming embrace to all residents. It's disheartening that political divisions have sometimes hindered the inclusivity that defines our community spirit. I am committed to bridging these divides. Regardless of political affiliation, every citizen's voice matters. My focus is not on how you vote but on understanding your needs and aspirations. League City thrives when we collaborate, transcending political lines, because ultimately, it's about what the city can do for every one of us.
I want to ensure our police officers and first responders, who make sacrifices to keep our community safe, are fully funded so that they are equipped to handle their jobs. I would also like to see in our budget a portion set aside for trauma-informed training to empower our emergency personnel and support those who have experienced a traumatic situation such as domestic violence.
League City cannot continue to passively wait for business to come to us. This passive approach can lead to missed opportunities, such as when Great Wolf Lodge passed on League City and moved to Webster. We must work proactively to seek out business developments we want to see in League City. Unless we want to see endless strip centers and self-storage centers open in town, we must be willing to engage with the business community and bring about growth that will provide a mutual benefit.
As new businesses and subdivisions come to League City, I want to ensure that flood mitigation and drainage are are included in the development planning.
New subdivisions should be required to implement measures to protect property owners' investments and reduce the probability of a subdivision flooding and the cost to homeowners.
Before voting on new construction projects, I will carefully consider residents' safety and quality of life and how they affect homeowner property value and tax rates. It is important to me to keep homeowners' taxes low and for League City to remain affordable for new and current residents.
Our city staff helps make League City the city we know and provides us with the resources and events that add to our small-town ambiance. I will support and value city employees' work because we are stronger because of them.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
